Discuss how the characters respond to their communities and/or change in their environment. What is the main character's flaw?

  • The characters responded to their environment pretty well, I guess the biggest flaw that Lucy had towards the beginning was having little to no faith in her situation, but how could you blame her she was still a child at mind and didn't understand or know what was going on.

Setting - country, tribe, city, state, time period:

  • St. Louis 1840-18--

Bring a question.
Will African Americans ever truly be free? Are we free know or is it just an illusion?
